I agree with statement, sure. Though, let's say it happens, do we have time to dismantle the system and build a new replacement before or after it has been destroyed?
Do we really have, the "luxury time";
to find a replacement before the system destroys itself, and everything around it?
The point here is the false dichotomy bewtween dramatic abrupt change vs slow incremental change.
When we realize we have to build a new boat first, ie beg, borrow or steal, before the old boat sinks..
Regardless how it sinks, we'll need a new boat big enough to carry all those fools who can't swim.
